Apparent murder-suicide leaves 2 adults, 3 children dead

The Cecil County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide after two adults and three children were found dead inside an Elk Mills home Friday morning.”This is a tragic and terrible day for our county and our community,” Cecil County Sheriff Scott Adams said during a news conference Friday afternoon. “Any time you have a loss to these levels — any loss is terrible, but a loss of this level, which is not a common thing, it’s certainly not a common thing here in Cecil County — it’s tragic and terrible and takes a long time for people to process.”Deputies were called shortly around 9:19 a.m. Friday to a house in the unit block of Hebron Court for a shooting.The sheriff said a man made a short call to 911 to report the children and a woman were fatally shot.The sheriff said deputies arrived around 9:30 a.m., went into a detached garage and the house and found a man, woman and three children dead from gunshot wounds. The sheriff said deputies found a semiautomatic handgun near the man’s body.The sheriff said the family’s next of kin have yet to be notified. He specified that the children are fifth, seventh and eighth grade students.Authorities put four nearby schools on code yellow, which is a heightened state of awareness, per protocol.There is no call history to the house, according to the sheriff’s records.The Sheriff’s Office activated a reverse 911 call to share there was no threat to the public.The Maryland State Police Crime Scene Technician was called to assist in the ongoing investigation.
