Whether you love superhero shows, dramas, comedies, or anything in between, 2022 has offered TV shows for any taste. It’s hard to believe that we’re already halfway through the year, and while creating a list of the best shows of the year so far, there was so much to choose from that even some of our favorites didn’t make the top 10. Euphoria set the tone for 2022 when it returned in early January with Season 2. The show inspired millions of tweets, jokes, memes, and conversations around addiction and mental health, making it one of the most talked-about shows in recent memory. It also felt like it brought back weekly episodic television, with fans waiting anxiously for Sunday night to arrive to be able to watch the episode along with everyone else online (and mostly to avoid spoilers).
After Euphoria, it was natural to wonder how anyone else would top that? And then Quinta Brunson quickly came along with the antidote to all the stress and drama the HBO series provided—Abbott Elementary. The workplace comedy elicited a strong reaction from viewers as well, but in a more wholesome way. Other fan favorites like Better Call Saul, Atlanta, and Barry made their grand return this year and continued to provide some of the best TV we’ve seen in recent years, as well as marking the return of our most beloved characters like Darius (LaKeith Stanfield) and NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan.) TV lovers have been well-fed this far into the year. We’ve kept up with the new releases on a weekly basis, and the abundance of quality TV is a delight for viewers but it also makes the upcoming Awards SZN even more exciting. Check out our choices for the top 10 best shows of 2022, so far—the order even surprised us, (Sorry, Moon Knight).
