She may have recently broken her finger — and put the X-ray on the cover of her latest single — but now, a 17-year-old Nashville-based singer-songwriter is starting 2022 off on the right foot.

Gayle — no surname, just “Gayle” — made her television debut last week on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon. The Texas native performed her global pop smash “abcdefu” on the show, and also sat down with Fallon for a quick interview about the track’s success.

“I remember hearing it for the first time on the radio,” Fallon said. “I go, ‘This is a massive song.'”

On the rock-inflected breakup anthem, Gayle curses pretty much everything about an ex, from their family to their “Craigslist couch” and “the way your voice sounds.”

“I was into you, but I’m ovеr it now,” she croons over crunchy power chords. “And I was trying to be nice, but nothing’s getting through/ so lеt me spell it out: A-B-C-D-E, F….”

We’ll let you fill in the blank. Gayle doesn’t on the studio version, but on “The Tonight Show,” she sang “forget you” for the TV censors — much like CeeLo Green did to clean up his 2010 hit.

Now on Atlantic/Arthouse Records, Gayle spent her teenage years (thus far) making trips to Nashville to pursue songwriting and recording. At 14, she made an impression on Kara DioGuardi — songwriter, producer, publisher and former “American Idol” judge — who signed Gayle to Arthouse.

“abcdefu” has reached No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Spotify Global chart. Like her previous independent singles, the song has found a considerable audience in South Korea, and on TikTok, its letter-fueled chorus became a way for users to learn American Sign Language.

Gayle performed “ABCDEFU” and talked to Jimmy Fallon on NBC's "The Tonight Show."

“I’ve pretended that I’ve been sitting on this couch for like, years in my house,” Gayle told Fallon. “And now I’m here, and it’s thanks to this app on my phone.”

She also shared the story of her previously broken finger: she tripped in her home while trying to put a harness on her dog. No hard feelings toward the canine community, however: one of “abcdefu’s” standout line comes after Gayle has cursed everything in an ex’s life, adding “everybody but your dog.”
