Wow.

Oklahoma goes to the bullpen

Oklahoma pitcher Jake Bennett’s night is over after he gets his 10th strikeout to start the top of the seventh. Bennett’s final line: 6.1 innings, seven hits, four runs (three earned), 74 strikes on 106 pitches.

Other than exiting with a two-run deficit, he had a good night. Chazz Martinez now pitching.

Ole Miss leads 4-2 through 6

Great patience at the plate there by Tanner Tredaway with the bases loaded and two outs. He works a 3-0 count and ends up drawing a walk to make it 4-2. Ole Miss got out of the inning on a groundout to pitcher Mason Nichols and was fortunate to only surrender two runs.

Nice job by Nichols coming in with no outs and getting two strikeouts to limit the damage.

Dougherty’s night is done

Oklahoma has loaded up the bases with no outs and now Jack Dougherty is done for the night. He went five innings, gave up three hits — all in the bottom of the sixth — and struck out six in his first start since March 26.

Excellent effort by him but now the Rebels are in some trouble. Mason Nichols enters the game to face Peyton Graham.

Oklahoma on the board

The Sooners have scored. Nice bunt by Kendall Pettis, a bad throw to first and Jackson Nicklaus scores from second base to make it 4-1.

Ole Miss in a jam here with two on and no outs and is getting its bullpen going.

Longest perfect game bid for Dougherty

As Jack Dougherty begins the sixth inning, it’s the longest perfect game bid in a College World Series finals game since the NCAA Tournament expanded in 1999.

SEC dominance

If Ole Miss wins the championship, it will be the first time that three different teams from the same conference have won the CWS in three consecutive (complete) seasons. Mississippi State won the title last season and Vanderbilt won it in 2019.

Arizona, Arizona State and USC won it in 1976, 1977 and 1978, but Arizona and Arizona State were in the WAC at that point.

Jack Dougherty special

Ole Miss pitcher Jack Dougherty so far: 4 IP, 0 hits, 0 walks, 6 Ks. In his first start in three months! In the CWS finals!

This has been incredible to watch. Dougherty has only thrown 51 pitches so far. He’s never gone more than five innings in his college career and is making only his fourth start of the season.

He’s shutting the Sooners down.

Bennett doesn’t give up run in 4th inning

Jake Bennett walks off the mound, not giving up a run in the 4th inning.

It’s the first time in Game 1 the Sooners pitcher didn’t give up a run in an inning.

Sooners leave an Ole Miss runner stranded in scoring position with two out.

Rebels still lead 4-0.

What’s at stake for Ole Miss

Ole Miss is attempting to become the first team to win the College World Series after having a losing conference record since the 2007 Oregon State Beavers went 10-14 in the Pac-12 and went on to win the school’s second straight title.

Ole Miss finished 14-16 in the SEC this season and earned a No. 3 seed in the Miami Regional. In 2015, Virginia went 15-15 in the ACC and won the CWS.

Early mistakes costing Sooners

More sloppiness proves costly for the Sooners. They should’ve been out of the second inning on a two-out grounder to second base, but Calvin Harris got on base on a poor throw (ruled a single) and then advanced on Jake Bennett’s third wild pitch of the night. Justin Bench singled him in to make it 3-0.

Pretty uncharacteristic play from Oklahoma so far tonight, and they haven’t done anything at the plate through two innings.
