Suspects in Rashad Taylor killing indicted for murder, held without bail

Two suspects have been indicted by the Hampden County Grand Jury in connection to the killing of 41-year-old Rashad Taylor who was shot and killed in Springfield in late June, according to the Hampden County DA’s office.

Armando Rodriguez, 22, of Springfield, and Angel Aponte-Rivera, 32, of Springfield have both been indicted on murder charges. Aponte-Rivera was arraigned in Hampden Superior Court on Sept. 16, while Rodriguez was arraigned on Sept. 21.

Both suspects are being held without bail and are scheduled to be back in court on March 15, 2023, for a pre-trial hearing, the Hampden DA said.

On July 22, a funeral service was held for Taylor and his family. He was remembered as a warmhearted person who would often greet people with a hearty, “hey, good morning, how’s your day going?”

Taylor’s nephew Orlando Taylor III also died of gun violence when he was shot and killed by a Springfield police officer after the officer had been stabbed. Orlando was only 23 years old.

Currently, the Springfield Police Department’s Homicide Unit and the Hampden DA’s murder unit are investigating Rashad’s killing.
