Woman’s body found in Pennsylvania apartment after standoff

Police say a man locked in a standoff for hours early Sunday morning in Lancaster County killed his girlfriend before police arrived.Police were called to the Park City Apartment complex on Swarr Run Road in East Hempfield Township around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.Police said the suspect, Miguel Rodriquez, opened fire on them. Lancaster County SERT members were called in about an hour after the initial call. Police said Rodriguez fired dozens of rounds at SERT officers, but no one was hit. Officers tried communicating with Rodriguez. They said at one point, he opened the door and scanned the area with a rifle. That’s when a nearby SERT team member shot Rodriguez. He was hit in the arm and shoulder area. The SERT team deployed tear gas in the apartment and took Rodriguez into custody around 6:30 a.m.Once officers were inside the home, they found a woman dead with one gunshot wound to the head. She has been identified as Nemesis Florentino, Rodriguez’s girlfriend.Court documents reveal more detailsAccording to the affidavit of probable cause, one of Rodriguez’s friends told police that Rodriguez video-chatted him and showed him that he had killed Florentino.That friend then called police, which led to the standoff.The court documents also state that Rodriguez left a voice message for a relative during the standoff. Officials said Rodriguez told the person:”Hey, I love you. Forgive me for what I’ve done. I’m not turning myself in to the police and the police are there. Bye. Take care of my kids and all.”The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office said Rodriguez is under guard at an area hospital. He is in stable condition.Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the use of force by the SERT team. The DA will make a determination after the investigation is complete whether the use of deadly force was warranted.Rodriguez faces one felony count of criminal homicide.
